The place & date of his birth was shown as Nabors, TX; January 3, 1893. James declared that he was a Conscientious Objector. He was tall & slender with blue eyes & brown hair. He signed his name "James Travis Gillispie." He was not called to duty.

James, age 67, was living 12 miles east of Stanford in Precinct #4, in Shackelford Co, TX when he was taken to Stanford Hospital in Stanford. He was dead on arrival having died from a Coronary Thrombosis at 8 a.m. on July 9, 1960. He was buried on July 10.
