He was born in Mahoning Township. Armstrong County, on March 16, 1889, the son of Alonzo and Minnie M.(Shumaker) Allen . On November 15, 1916, he married the former Annie Slagle, who survives.
Mr Allen was a coal miner for 40 years and also worked at St. Charles brickworks. He was a member of the Distant Church of God.
Also surviving are; three daughters, Mrs. Laird (Ruby) Schreckengost of Akron, Ohio, Mrs Lee (Norma) Butgereit of Eureka, California, and Mrs. Barry (Evelyn) Harper of Rochester, Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Guthrie and Mrs. Elsie Shumaker, both of Distant, and Mrs. Dee Guthrie of Hillsdale; two brothers, Edgar and Charles, both of Distant; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A son, Fred, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at the Distant Church of God with the Rev. Floyd Whitsel officiating. Internment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Distant.
