John Earl Abbott, 67, of Zanesville, went to be with his Lord at 10:23 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born October 26, 1940, in Zanesville, a son of Leona May Bowers Harris and the late Prince Earl Abbott. He retired after 33 years of service from Burnham Boiler. He was a US Army Veteran, a member of American Legion Post #29, Eagles Lodge #302 and enjoyed bowling and golfing.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Kay V. Newton Abbott, whom he married July 3, 1993, of the home; a daughter, Lynn (Michael) McGuire of Zanesville; three sons, John Lee Abbott, Shane (Kendra) Abbott and Chad Michael Abbott, all of Zanesville; two step-sons, Larry Lee (Janet) Johnson of Mount Perry and Michael (Maria) Johnson of Zanesville; a step-daughter, Tammy (Mark) Sharrock of Zanesville; 10 grandchildren, Mandi, Linsey, Ashley, Krysten, Mandy, Roger, Kayla, Kristen, Cody and Anna; a great-granddaughter, Kyliegh Joe and two sisters, Patty (Larry) Collins of Zanesville and Delia (Jerry) Mickelson of Clearwater, Minnesota.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Marie Larrison Abbott; a sister, Rowena Seevers and step-father, Ralph Harris.

Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008 at the funeral home with the Pastor Marc Caton officiating. Burial with full military honors being conducted with the U.S. Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will be held at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
