Jesse E. Hodge, 75, Passes Away, Retired Farmer

Jesse Edward Hodge, 75, retired farmer and resident of Carthage and the area 55 years, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday at the family home, 709 Clinton. Ill several years, Mr. Hodge had been bedfast for sometime.

Born March 10, 1888, at Cassville, Mr. Hodge was a son of Mr. and Mrs John Hodge. He came as a young man to this area and was married Sept. 12, 1908, in Carthage to Miss Mary Foster. Fourteen children were born to the couple, four of whom died in infancy and a daughter, Peggy, 18, was killed Feb. 8, 1948, in a car accident.

Surviving Mr. Hodge are the wife; seven daughters; Mrs. Roy Taylor, Reeds, route 1; Mrs. William Ward, 513 Oak; Mrs. Albert Helton, 913 Valley; Mrs. Ted Griffith, Imperial Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Charles Gisel, Jr., Auke Bay, Alaska; Mrs. Earnest Jacobsen, York, Nebraska, and Mrs. Ken Dunker, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Virgil Hodge, Reeds, route 1, and Harold Hodge, Olathe, Ks.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grand-children; twin brothers, Jackson Hodge, Hemet, Calif., and David Hodge, Mayflower, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Fannie McClere, Fullerton, Calif.,Mrs. Josephine Walters, San Bernardino, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Mann, Bakersfield, Calif.

A grandson, Roy Taylor, Jr., drowned April 22, 1961, in Roaring River.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Knell mortuary. The Rev. Floyd Cochran and the Rev. Frank Bartelmey will officiate.

Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery, southeast of Carthage.
