The Bible record states Thomas was born on June 16, 1882; the headstone and funeral home announcement states June 16, 1881. I and the family tend to go with the 1881 date. That is what I published in my book, "Deep in the Holler" - Hoppers and Kin of Leatherwood - Claiborne and Union County Tennessee. Grandmother, Barbara Allen Shoffner, always believed 1881 thus the family put the 1881 date on his headstone. He died on Oct 19, 1956.

Thomas B. Hopper's WWI draft registration in which he signed lists his date of birth as June 16, 1883. Date of registration was on Sept 12, 1918 and his age was listed as 35. I suspect, based on this primary source documentation, 1883 is the correct date of birth.
