Susan RATCLIFF COLE was born in Stafford County, VA in 1806. She was the daughter of John A RATCLIFFE and Susan. She married Alexander COLE ca 1825. About 1846 the young family moved to Laurel, Prince George's County, MD. Then about 1862 during the Civil War they moved to Washington, DC. For at least a year in 1865 Susan ran a boarding house at 7th St east near M. When Alexander died in 1880, Susan remained in DC for about a year then moved to Laurel, MD to live with her youngest son Marcellus and his family. She remained there until her death in 1886.
