Jessie Marie Howard of John Day died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Blue Mountain Nursing Home in Prairie City. She was 92.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at the Prairie City Cemetery.

Mrs. Howard was born on June 6, 1914, in Longmont, Colo. to James and Eva (Henery) Stokes. She grew up with two sisters, Gladys and Maravene, and a brother, Earl.

In 1930, she married Edgar Howard and they had four children; one son, Jack, and three daughters, Donna, Marva and Sandra. She worked in the Blue Mountain Hospital, then located in Prairie City, as a nurses aide in the wards, and an assistant in surgery. She later worked as a nurse in the offices on Dr. Merrill and Dr. Newton, until she was 70 years old.

She loved watching the Denver Broncos and the Portland Trailblazers and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Howard was a member of the ESA Sorority. She was Grand Marshal of the Prairie City 4th of July parade and was a member of the Eastern Star.

She resided in the Blue Mountain Nursing Home since June 21, 2004.

Mrs. Howard is survived by her sister, Maravene Clay, of Palm Coast, Fla.; son, Jack Howard of Forest Grove; daughter, Sandra Burns, of Prairie City; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and a few great- great-grandchildren.
