Dean J. Anderson, age 83, of Alexis, Ill., passed away at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Mercer County Hospital in Aledo, Ill. Dean was born on March 11, 1925, in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Emery K. and Vurr Mae Reith Anderson.
He graduated from Alexis High School and served in the United States Army attached to the 481st Military Police Escort Company. He served his overseas time at Fort Armstrong in Honolulu, Hi.
Dean married Marjorie M. Zielke on March 19, 1948 in the Norwood Presbyterian Church where they both were members. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2000.
They began farming in the Biggsville Community. He also farmed near Alexis and retired from farming after 29 years near Seaton, returning to Alexis.
Dean was a charter member of American Legion Post 1176 at Biggsville, elder in the Norwood Church and school board member in the Yorkwood Schools system. He was a member of Charity Lodge #838 in Seaton, Alexis Lions Club and the American Legion Post 189 in Alexis. He was also a lifetime member V.F.W. Post 1571 in Alexis. He was a member of the Ag Alumni, Alexis High School.
Dean enjoyed his family and friends, liked to travel, enjoyed musical concerts, and gardening.
Surviving Dean are two daughters Marcia Millspaugh (John) of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and Karen Jones (Chris) of Seaton, Illinois, four grandchildren, Christina (Dan) White, Matthew (July Anne) Millspaugh, Theresa (John) Zihlman, and Nicholas Jones, five great grandchildren, Taylor, Izaac, Breaba, Blake, Layke and special friend Mary Avis Richardson.

Services: A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday February 4, 2009, at the Norwood Church.
Interment will be in the Alexis Cemetery. Dean's family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday evening Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial fund is being established for Norwood Church.
