Manley Baker

ELMIRA - The funeral will be held March 4 for Manley J. Baker of Elmira, who died Feb. 27 of complications from diabetes. He was 77.

Baker was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Goshen, to William and Violet Harrell Baker. He married Virginia Daw on April 1, 1950, in Reno, Nev.

He worked as a millwright for Tangfeldt Lumber Company in Eugene for 23 years and for Swanson Brothers in Noti for 20 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping and, in his later years, going to casinos. He enjoyed working with his hands and he built his own home. His family will remember him as "a very down-to-earth man, very stable and dependable."

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gene of Elmira; three daughters, Mary Lou Peters of Eugene, Ruth Garwood of Lebanon and Violet Lambert of Elmira; two brothers, Frank of Poodle Creek and Wayne of Glenwood; two sisters, Florence Padden of Poodle Creek and Lucille Miller of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A grandson, Shawn, and a great-grandson, Baby Troy, died previously.

Friday's service will be at 2 p.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene, with entombment at West Lawn Mausoleum.
