Mary A. Darlington

A very estimable and well-known West Chester lady died expectantly yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Mary A. Darlington, wife of Francis Darlington, of No 123 East Washington Street, succumbed after an illness of only about two hours. She was apparently in her usual health in the morning and attended High Street Friends' Meeting as usual. About 2 o'clock in the afternoon she was suddenly taken ill with heart disease. A physician was summoned and relief obtained. Her family and friends, who were at first alarmed at her condition, no felt easier and did not apprehend anything more serious, when suddenly and almost without a moment's warning she died at about 4 o'clock.

The trouble appeared to be something in the nature of neuralgia of the heart. She had long been in rather feeble health but was usually able to be about her house and to attend such public meetings she desired. No one anticipated he death at this time. The deceased was a daughter of Benjamin Allen, of Vermont. The family removed to Wisconsin while the subject of this sketch was quite young. It was there she met Francis Darlington, who had removed from this place, and was subsequently married to him. About ten years ago they came East and have since resided here.

Se leaves to survive her beside her husband four children- Mrs. Jennie Hart, wife of Professor Hart, of Lafayette College; Barton Darlington, who studied law in West Chester, but is now practicing in Los Angeles, California; Anna, who is still at home, and Newell, who is a student in Lafayette College.

The deceased, although not a member of the Society of Friends, was a consistant attendant at the High Street Meeting. She was a woman of very kindly disposition and was greatly beloved in the community.
