Adam Miller was born in Virginia, Greenbrier County, on Muddy Creek Mountain. His father was the Henry Miller of these records, and his mother was Barbara Arbaugh. He was born in 1806.Very likely he was named after his maternal grandfather, Adam Arbaugh, who was deceased about a half a dozen years before Adam was born but had lived on the same mountain. Before Adam was old enough to work his mother passed away. When he was about 10 years old his father remarried; his step-mother being Barbara Rife. He helped his father work on the farm and in the fields and woods.Adam remained in Virginia even after his father and many other members of his family left for Ohio to live. He stayed on for some years. He married in Greenbrier county in 1829, to Elizabeth Hulett, and is listed in that county in both the 1830 and 1840 census. Sometime after 1840 census his wife died. He married again. This marriage took place in Fayette county, and his second wife was Martha (Patsy) Ward. She had been born in Rockingham county around 1847. He, with his family, moved to Symmes township of Lawrence county, Ohio. For the next 36 years he lived in this place. He was the father of thirteen known children, five by his first wife and eight by the second. He was a farmer by trade, and he was a member of the Methodist church at Buffalo, called Rehoboth. To this he was faithful. His neighbors always remembered him, even in his declining years being so punctual to pass by their homes, with black hat and cane, going to church. Three or more of his sons served in the Civil War. His son Harvey, went, and did not return. Adam owned land in section four of Symmes and the name Miller Hollow is used of where he used to live. It is a branch off of Caulley Creek. Martha (Patsy) , his wife died in 1874, and was laid to rest at Rehoboth, on the hill above the church they attended.
