Lilbern Ewelee "Gene" Asbell, of Aldrich, MO, departed this life on Sunday, January 25, 2009, in Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Mo., at the age of 86 years. He was born on January 8, 1923, in Bona, Mo., to the late Henry and Maud (Rector) Asbell. Gene attended the Bona School and graduated from Dadeville High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Gene was united in marriage to Janet Marie Campbell on June 14, 1959, in the Fairview Baptist Church. He was a member of the Washington Lodge #87 A.F. & A.M. Preceding him in death were his parents; his loving wife Janet Marie Asbell; his sister Evelyn Shelton; one niece Martha Jones; and one nephew Bill Shelton. Survivors include one son Jack Asbell, of Bona, Mo.; one daughter Jeanne Hickey and her husband Jeff, of Dadeville, Mo.; four grandchildren, Doug Keys, Shelby Hickey, Katie Hickey, and Dawn Bookout; two nephews, Bob Jones and J.D. Shelton; and a host of great nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009, in Fairview Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Abbott and Minister Jim Poland officiating. Burial will follow in the Bona Cemetery with full military honors and Masonic last rites.
