Mr. Zech C. Dameron Jr., 62 years old, of Pecos, TX, died in Reeves County Memorial Hospital at 11:16 a.m., Friday, January 22nd, [1971] after a short illness. Mr. Dameron was born in Mertzon, TX, August 27, 1908, and had been a resident of Pecos for 25 years. He had moved to Pecos from Del Rio, TX. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1932, and had served as a captain with the 9th Armored Division from 1942-46. He was with the US Agriculture Department as a conservationist for 30 years and had worked out of the A&M Experiment Station in Pecos. He was a member of the Rotary Club, an elder in the Presbyterian Church and a rancher at Dryden and Sheffield. He was a member of the Texas Society of Range Management. He was married to Miss Jane Withers in Fort Knox, KY, in 1942. Mrs. Dameron is a daughter of Mrs. Rice Dugan of Brandenburg. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Zeck Dameron III of Brooks Army General Hospital, San Antonio, TX; a brother, Jacob T. Dameron, Bluffdale, TX; 3 sisters, Mrs. Hamp Carter, Rankin, TX, Mrs. Henry Mills and Mrs. Marvin Ellis, both of Del Rio, TX. Funeral and burial services were held in Pecos, TX, January 24th.
***********************************************************************************************Zechariah Clifton Dameron, Jr., graduated from Del Rio High School and later graduated from Texas A&M College. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II. He was discharged in 1944 holding the rank of Captain. He returned to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Pecos, serving for thirty years. Much of the cotton irrigation in the Pecos Valley was planned and executed by Zech. He retired in 1969.
