Henry served during the civil war as a Fayette Co. Alabama soldier, enlisting at Fayette Courthouse on 11 June 1861.He served in the 11th Alabama infantry and fought in battles at Sharpsburg(Antietam), Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and he was present at the surrender at Appomattox.
At Sharpsburg, he fought in Bloody Lane.

Correspondence during the war to Henry and his brother Daniel from the Honnell brothers, who served in the Caledonia (Miss) rifles, is in Emory University Special records in Atlanta.

Henry married Martha Amy Walker in 1865 in Sulligent,Lamar Co. Alabama. They had 10 children: Louella 1866, Howell Cadmus 1870, Oscar Wallace 1872, William Theophilus 1874, Dora Ann 1876, Ted 1878 (nothing is known of him), Frederick Melvin 1879, Myrt Winston 1882, Vinnie L. 1884, Mattie E. 1885.
Martha Amy died April 15, 1886.

Henry then married Nancy Serena Holladay 02 Oct 1887. They had 10 children: Tezzie Marie and Infant twin 1891, Tobe 1892, Maude Wing 1893, Anna Bell 1895, Henry Huie 1897, Roy Homer 1900, Edgar 1902, Infant 1903, Bluford Clay 1904.

Henry was a sibling to Dan, Flim, Martha Amy, Julia, Kate, John, and Fannie.
