Obituary:
Henry Evan Barnard died at his home in White Hall at 5:15 PM, November 24, 1936 following an illness of five years paralysis. Pneumonia, which developed six days prior to his demise, was the immediate cause of death.
Mr. Barnard was the son of John Elvis and Milly Jane Hopper Barnard and was born in Athensville Township on May 20, 1868, being a life-long resident of Greene County.
He attended Bushnell College and on August 9, 1897 was united in marriage to Miss Annie Lydia Anderson who survives with the following children: John Garfield, Frances Carmel, Joseph Raymond, Fredric Ross all of White Hall; Mrs. Marcus (Zella Pearl)Koenig, Mrs. William (Zelma Burl)Hale of East Alton; Zada Clara Barnard of Alton and Charles Edwin Barnard of Winchester.
He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Norman, Edwin S. and John E. all of White Hall; Mrs. Edna Elizabeth Goodall also of White Hall; Mrs. Hattie Imogene Lewis of Hettick; Mrs. Eveline Estella Ridings of Wrights.
The deceased served as Town Clerk of White Hall for a time and as Postmaster at Wrights for eight years. He was a sawyer by trade and at various times taught school, operated a store, an ice plant and a telephone exchange.
Funeral services were held at Richwoods Church on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, in charge of Rev. Albert Monroe, with interment following in Richwoods Cemetery.
