Magnus Forde of Decorah, also Meets Instant Death in Same Accident.

Wilton Leo Underwood of Ryan died in a hospital at Decorah, Iowa, Sunday afternoon, April 15th, 1934, his death being due to injuries he received in an automobile collision on Highway No. 53, a few miles south of Decorah. Mr. Underwood was driving a Model A Ford coupe, while the driver of the other car was Magnus Forde of Decorah. Mr. Magnus was killed instantly in the accident. While the driver of the Decorah car was killed instantly, and Mr. Underwood rendered unconscious, the exact cause of the terrific accident will never be known. The two cars were completely demolished, and from the appearance of the machines, it seems that they must have struck almost squarely head on. Mr. Underwood was on his way to the CCC camp near Decorah, where he was to deliver an address to the boys in the camp.

Funeral services for Mr. Underwood were held at St. John's church in Ryan this (Tuesday) morning, at nine o'clock. Rev. M.J. Farrelly was in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Underwood was born at Independence, Iowa, March 30, 1912, and when he was a babe in arms, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where they resided for five years. The family then came to Ryan, where the young man received his early education, and was graduated from the St. John High school. He then entered the state university of Iowa, and took four years of work in the college of medicine. At the time of his death he was pursuing a correspondence course in law.

Mr. Underwood is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Underwood; one brother, Marty, and one sister, Miss Rose Underwood; his grandmother, Mrs. Rose Summers; and his aunt, Mrs. Ed Goss, all of Ryan, besides other more distant relatives.

He had been a devout member of the Catholic church, and was well and favourably known in the community in which he lived. His death, coming so unexpectedly, brings a great sorrow to the mother and the other members of the household The sorrowing relatives have the earnest sympathy of friends in this time of great affliction.
