Uncle Vic was the 5th child born to Benjamin Jerome and Maude Durrant Porter. He was born May 13, 1913 in Franklin, Idaho. This is where he grew up and received his schooling.

He enjoyed hiking in the mountains around Franklin, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He helped on his father's farm east of Franklin and took it over after his father's death.

On June 6, 1939, he married Retta Lowe in Logan, Utah, and was later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. The couple settled on the small farm, later moving into Franklin to be closer to Retta's parents.

Uncle Vic worked for many years for Del Monte canning factory in Franklin and as a carpenter and plumber for Cyril Lowe Construction and Preston Lumber Company.

They moved to fruit farm near Franklin where they had several acres of Cherries, apricots, pairs, and apples.

Uncle Vic and Aunt Retta were blessed with three children:
JoAnn (Russ) Edwards, Pocatello; Brent (Jolene) Porter, Franklin; and Kay (Lewis) Nelson, Franklin. They had seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Aunt Retta preceded Uncle Vic in death November 20, 1996. Uncle Vic passed away at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Preston, Idaho Sept. 5, 1999 at the age of 86. Four brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Franklin LDS Stake Center Sept. 9, 1999. Burial was in the Franklin Cemetery.

He was a good husband and father and a kind, loving person.

Pictures are from a book of family pictures compiled by my sister Cleone Peterson.

Written by Merlyn Cook from family information and my memories of Uncle Vic.
