Alma Fines Cook Milam, 68, surrounded by her loving family singing Amazing Grace went home to be with the Lord Sunday, January 25, 2009, in Raleigh General Hospital. Born December 16, 1940, in Bradshaw she was the daughter of the late Bithel and Stella Miller Fines. Alma was a 1958 graduate of Baileysville High School; a retired teacher's aid having worked for Wyoming County Board of Education for 35 years; she became a Christian at the age of 16 years, a member of Clear Fork Valley Baptist Church. Alma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and was always giving to others. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Ford Cook, Sr.; a grandson, Calvin Lane; two sisters, Katherine Portinch and Jackie Morgan; a brother, Elic Beavers; and a nephew, Delane Morgan. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 15 years, Rev. Tom Milam of Oceana; two children, Kenny Ford Cook and his wife, Amanda of Turkey Creek and Sherri Lane Hatfield and her fiance Mike St. Clair of Baileysville; a brother, Tom Fines of Mississippi; a sister, JoAnn Mullins of Roanoak, VA.; two grandchildren, Jessica Hatfield and her fiance, Jason Waldron of Sophia and Kristen Cook of Turkey Creek; a step-granchild, Kandi Stepp of Huntington; one great-grandson, Alex Miller of Tennessee; special niece and nephew, Beth Rowe and Eric Morgan; several other nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A celebration of Alma's life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Erwin Gregory and Rev. Tommy Knotts officating. Alma will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Casketbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at the funeral home. Services entrusted to Adam Toler Memorial Funeral Home, Oceana, WV.
