Age 84 of Goodlettsville. Was born on February 20, 1924 and passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009. Mr. Porter was a graduate of East High School; a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during World War II aboard the USS Boston; retired from L&N Railroad after 43 years of service; and was a member of East End United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Leon Porter; his father, Earl Johnson Porter, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Milton and Susie Porter. Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Betty Marie Porter of Goodlettsville; brothers, Earl J. (Dianne) Porter, Jr. of Springfield and Billy R. (Carol) Porter of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Mary Sue (George) Maginnis of Cornersville; brother-in-law, Harold Clayton (Alice) Warren of Orlando, FL. The family will receive friends from 4 til 8 p.m., Tuesday and again from 12 noon til service time 1 p.m., Wednesday at the Spring Hill Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Maginnis, Michael Hunter, Jason Farley, John Michael Floyd, Jeffrey Rankhorn and Richard Winecoff. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville Scottish Rite Foundation, 100 7th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37202.
