Louise, the daughter of Fred Theodore and Della Mae (Teague) Byrd, was a longtime resident of Meeker. She married Miles Wilborn Merritt on January 25, 1947 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Louise was a homemaker and a member of the Prague Freewill Baptist Church. Her parents, two brothers, and two sisters preceded Louise in death.

Survivors include her husband of almost 62 years, Miles Merritt of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Lynn Merritt of Meeker; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and David Brown of Meeker, Janice and Philip Wallace of Meeker, Gayla and Chuck Willis of Bossier City, LA; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM, at Gable Cemetery in Meeker with Rev. Leon Williams officiating.
