Funeral Services Will Be Conducted This Afternoon at Hovis Chapel.
Mrs. O. J. Rader, 75, who established one of the first photographic studios in Charlotte, died at 5:30 p.m. yesterday at her home at 612 Clement Avenue.
Mrs. Rader had been in declining health for five years, after retiring from active work in the studio.
She came to Charlotte with her husband in 1895 and together they established a photograph studio on North Tryon street, which was unpaved at the time, where the present Ivey's building stands. It was known as the Rembrandt studio and later was moved to South Tryon. It boasted the first electrical signs in Charlotte. Mrs. Rader took over the business when her husband died in 1935.
Mrs. Rader was born September 16, 1872, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hosea Deal of Catawba county, both now deceased.
She is survived by one grandson, H. L. Belk, Jr., of Asheville, and one great-grandson, Harry Logan Belk, III, of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today at the Hovis Funeral home chapel, conducted by Rev. Herman P. Wyrick. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J. L. Deal, C. P. Deal, H. E. Deal, all of Charlotte, Claude Deal of Gastonia, Coy Jones, E. S. Johnson, both of Charlotte, and Bryce Jones of York.
