Mustered in to Company I of the 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 19, 1861. His company was known as “The McKeesport Rifle Grays.” Was present at the Battle of Gettysburg. His name is inscribed on the plaque for the 63rd Pennsylvania on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg. Promoted to Corporal on May 6, 1864. Absent (wounded) at muster out.
