Edward Bechtol was a self-made man who never had school advantages, but who, Nevertheless, acquired a substantial position in life. He lived near Marion until Mrs. Murphy (daughter Elizabeth Bechtol Murphy) was nine years of age, and then settled on the Dora Pike in Wabash County. There he acquired five hundred acres of land. Mr. Bechtol died there, and his wife passed away at Wabash.
