ILLNESS FATAL TO DUNCANSVILLE MAN

Winfield V. Webb, well known businessman and tax collector, residing at 1109 Third avenue, Duncansville, died Saturday night, May 8, 1937, at 9:30 o'clock at the Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, Md., where he had been a patient since March 17. About one year ago Mr. Webb met with a mishap in which a knee was injured. Later complications developed and his health became impaired and he went to Baltimore for treatment. His wife and daughter were with him at the hospital when he died.

Mr. Webb was born in Duncansville on March 14, 1886, a son of Albert S. and Ida Webb, and resided there all his life. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Shoenfelt on Feb. 14, 1905, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Samuel Moody, then pastor of the Presbyterian church.

Early in life he was employed by the Pennsylvania railroad in this city, but after his marriage became a salesman for his father-in-law, the late John K.Shoenfelt, in the marble business. When Mr. Shoenfelt retired, the business was taken over by a son, Charles Shoenfelt, and Mr. Webb, and the firm since operated under the name Shoenfelt & Webb. Mr. Webb was elected tax collector more than twenty years ago and served continuously since. He was a member of the Lutheran church, the Commercial Travelers and the Altoona Lions club.

Surviving are the parents, his wife and one son and one daughter, Paul Webb of Youngstown, O., and Mrs. Arthur Freeman of Duncansville; two grandchildren and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. Harriet Fluke of Harrisburg, Mrs. Effie Aikens and Mrs. Marjory Jaegle of Toledo, O., William Webb of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Nan Good, Russell Webb and Charles Webb, all of Altoona, and Mrs. Mary Miller and Mrs. Celia Stewart of Hollidaysburg. The body arrived in this city late last evening and will be taken to the home today where friends are being received.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. G. B. Barman of the Lutheran church at the home, 1109 3rd Ave., on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Interment following at Carson Valley cemetery.
