The Rev. Larry Dahlstrom will officiate. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the funeral. Burial, under direction of Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Home, will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
She was born July 20, 1943, to William and Maurine (Miller) Asmus in Brookings. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1962. She married J. Sterud Nov. 21, 1962, in Brookings.
During his term in the Air Force, they lived in Waco, Texas; Rancho Cordova, Calif.; Atwater, Calif.; Minot, N.D.; and in 1965 at Ellsworth Air Force Base. They returned to Rapid City in 1984.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and an active member of Make Today Count. Memorials have been established to Make Today Count and the American Cancer Society. Before her illness, she was attending classes at National College and Black Hills State University.
Survivors include her husband, of Rapid City; two daughters; her mother, Maurine Asmus of Brookings; three sisters, Arlene Kurtz of Brookings; two brothers, Alvin Asmus of Mitchell and Dewaine Asmus of Brookings; and two half brothers and two half sisters.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
