Hillard Cash
Cowpens, SC - - Hillard Lee Cash, 82, of 124 Crystal Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Mayo, he leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Oneta Ezell Cash. He was the son of the late Judd Lee Cash and Frances Gossett Cash of Mayo. A decorated veteran, Mr. Cash served in the United States Army in Japan and Korea during World War II and in its aftermath. He spent his working years delivering milk and ice cream for Sealtest and Breyers. He retired from Kraft Foods in 1989. An avid gardener, he loved spending time working in his yard, growing crops in his garden and nurturing beautiful azaleas in his greenhouses. Mr. Cash was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Cowpens and attended Mt. Olive throughout his life. Mr. Cash will most be remembered for his devotion to his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Johnny Lee Cash and wife, April of Cowpens; two daughters, Jennie Cash Fowler and husband, Steve and June Cash Spencer and husband, Rev. Dennis Spencer, all of Cowpens; five grandchildren, Eddie Fowler, Chris Fowler, Josh Spencer, Rebecca Spencer Gibson and Jonah Lee Cash; five great grandchildren, Noah Fowler, Louis Fowler, Candace Fowler, Campbell Spencer and Cade Spencer; two brothers, William Cash, Sr. of Cowpens and Bobby Dean Cash and wife, Joyce of Spartanburg; four sisters, Carnell Bishop of Mayo, Carolyn Thompson and husband, Alton of Spartanburg, Marylin Henderson and husband, Paul of Chesnee and Brenda Heatherly and husband, Furman of Mayo. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Cash and a sister, Doris Cantrell. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00 PM at the Church with Dr. Robert Kirby and Rev. Dennis Spencer officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 250 Mount Olive Road, Cowpens, SC 29330.
