Retired Machinist Dies at 77 ~ Stephen W. Getman, 77. of 418 Portage St. a retired New York Air Brake Co. machinist, died at 1:55 p.m. Saturday at the House of the Good Samaritan where he was admitted Friday. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Simpson Funeral Home with Rev. Ira E. Elliott, pastor, Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Winnie Mae Brown Getman; a son, William E. Getman, Watertown; a daughter, Mrs. Ivan (Elsie) Sanders, Theresa; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Born Feb. 22, 1899, at Theresa, a son of DeWitt and Elmira Russell Getman, he served in the Navy from Feb. 23, 1917 until May 17, 1917, when he received a medical discharge. He married Winnie Mae Brown Feb. 23, 1918, at Carthage. The couple resided 23 years at Munns Corners while Mr. Getman was employed at the St Regis Paper Co., Deferict. The couple then moved to Watertown and Mr. Getman was employed as a machinist at the New York Air Brake 23 years, retiring in August, 1968.
