Son of John Washington Campbell Cunningham and Sarah E. Couch. He was the husband of Louisa Jane Buchanan. Joseph was a Confederat Veteran. He was captured at Ft. Donelson and confined at Camp Morton, Ind. He escaped on 14 July 1862 and was recaptured by the Federals.
