He was a resident of Groves for 54 years and was a retired lab technician from Gulf Oil with 37 years of service. He was a longtime member and deacon of Groves First Baptist Church, and an Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be at l0:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2005, at Groves First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Fondren and Rev. Ray Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery in Colmesneil, Texas under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will be Thursday, March 24, 2005, from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
John was preceded in death by his grandchild, Lucas Durham.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Durham of Groves, daughter, Lauren Brown of Colmesneil, three sons, Ray Durham of Georgetown, Larry Fondren of Athens, and Roger Durham of Groves, two sisters, Evonne Brown of Colmesneil, and Leverne Parsons of Diboll, two brothers, Leonard Durham of Colmesneil, and Billy Jack Durham of Huntington, seven grandchildren, Micah Fondren, Jared Fondren, Matthew Durham, Jeff Brown, Jeremy Brown, Heather Durham, and Josh Durham, and three great grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughter, Heather Durham, and the deacons of Groves First Baptist Church.
