Helen L. Eckels, 90, Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg, died Tues., Jan. 20, 2009 at home. She was born in Altoona, daughter of William & Emma (Ross) Shingle. She married Charles E. 'Ducky' Eckels Oct. 5, 1940, in Cumberland, MD and he died Feb. 3, 1999. Survived by children: Edward W. Eckels & wife, Frances, of Altoona and Karen Lose & husband, Lewis, of Bellefonte; 6 grandchildren; 9 gr. grandchildren; 1 gr. gr. granddaughter; and sister-in-law, Betty Lenson. She was predeceased by brother, William Shingle. Helen was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, where she was active with the church kitchen committee. She was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School. Helen enjoyed cooking. Friends will be received from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Altoona, where a funeral service will be 11 a.m. Interment, Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
