Phil was a resident of Carrabelle, Florida for a number of years but a native and longtime resident of Pompano Beach, Florida. He passed away Sunday night in a hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Edgar Shiver and Annie Ruth Shiver. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delores Shiver; his children, Kenneth Phillip and Sharon Shiver, Laurel and Bob Egan, Bartow Jefferson and Marie Shiver and Matthew Warren Shiver; his brother, Larry Shiver; sisters Sylvia and Dale Gallagher and Coral and John Tribble; his aunt, Evelyn Jacquess; grandchildren, Katherine, Phillip, Sarah, Christina, Morgan and Victoria; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Phil was born and raised in Pompano Beach. He served honorably in the United States Navy, after which he became a Pompano Beach lifeguard. He served on the Pompano Beach Fire Department for 24 years and was fireman of the year for the state of Florida in 1976. He retired from his job as assistant fire chief in 1983 and moved to the North Florida Gulf Coast. There he spent many years fishing from his dock and enjoying his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EST Wednesday, January 21st at Harvey-Young Funeral Home in Crawfordville. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, January 23rd at Kraeer Funeral Home in Pompano Beach. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at Kraeer Funeral Home, with burial at the City of Pompano Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Florida Sheriffs Boys Ranch, P. O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch of Florida and the Nature Conservancy, 10326 N. W. Longleaf Drive, Bristol, Florida 32321.
