Thomas Jefferson Shields, moved his family from Homer, Texas to Brown County, Texas about 1867, they were among the first settlers. His Re-patriation Certificate is dated, August 19, 1867, at Brown County, Texas. T.J. saw a lot of history made in Texas. Texas annexed to the U.S. in 1845 - 1861 the state seceded and joined the Confederacy. T.J.'s obituary is in the museum in the County Court House at Baird, Texas.
