Delma L. Aller

"Pocatello - Delma Lee Aller, 2630 Butte Street, Pocatello, passed away at the Portneuf Medical Center Sunday evening, Aug 27, 2006, following a short illness. She was 91 years old.

Delma was born July 30, 1915, in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, the fifth child born to Wesley Bowen Blackledge and Sinnie Arvida Walters. She received her schooling in Mississippi.

On Dec. 30, 1935, she married Dannie P. Watts in Waynesboro, Wayne County, Mississippi. They soon made their home in Tennessee, and were blessed with two daughters, Lillian Denise and Judith Ann. Delma and Dannie were later divorced.

Delma moved to San Francisco in December 1955. For many years she managed the dress shops at the Fairmont and St. Francis Hotels before transferring to a sister hotel in Sacramento. She was an accomplished seamstress and interior decorator. She also loved needlework and crochet.

Delma met Kanzel L. Aller through her brother, who was married to Kanzel's sister. A long friendship was established. In September 1971, Kanzel proposed and they were married in Carson City, Nev., Oct. 8, 1971. They were quick to say that they had been on a 34-year honeymoon.

After Kanzel retired from the Union Pacific Railroad, they traveled extensively in their motor home, visiting friends and family across the width and breadth of the United States. They enjoyed frequent trips to Jackpot, Nev., as well as Laughlin, Las Vegas and Reno. They also enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Delma loved to tend her beautiful roses and work in her flower garden. They took great joy in landscaping the yard on Butte Street, which abounds with fruit trees and roses. Each year they cultivated a large vegetable garden. Delma canned everything they grew, sharing the excess bounty with family and friends.

Delma is survived by her husband, son-in-law, Dan Leonard (Denise); nephew, Roy Martin, Biloxi, Mississippi; nieces, Mary Bankston, Biloxi, Mississippi, and Doris Slay, Laurel, Mississippi; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two daughters, two grandchildren and siblings, Enda Martin, James Cleveland Blackledge, Jimmy Blackledge (Blake), Lillian Harden, Houston Blackledge and James Rowe Blackledge. Also surviving is a longtime family friend, Geno Baxley of California.

As per Delma's wishes, cremation has taken place and no memorial service is planned. Cremation services were completed through Cornelison-Henderson Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello."

KANZEL L ALLER was born 26 June 1920, got Social Security number 518-20-2330 (indicating Idaho,) and died 12 March 2009.
