Sister Hughetta Snowden is honored along with the Yellow Fever Martyrs of Memphis; she served in more than one epidemic but survived. Sister Hughetta became superior of the work at Memphis for the Sisters of St. Mary (now the Community of St. Mary). She later established CSM's convent and boarding school for girls in Sewanee, Tennessee.
The high altar of St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Memphis, consecrated on Whitsunday 1879, was commissioned by Bishop Quintard to memorialize the Sisters of St. Mary who died. When Sister Hughetta died in 1926 her name was added to the steps, replacing the verse, "He feedeth among the lilies." The reredos (altar backdrop) is also a memorial to Sister Hughetta.
