Howell Pickens Moss was the third child and second son of Samuel and Lydia Moss. He first married Rachel J. Waugh on Jan. 30, 1879. Howell and Rachel were the parents of two children, Ida and an unnamed infant. Rachel died about 1887-1888. Howell married Frances Caroline (Carrie) Crave Hoyt on Nov 14, 1888, and they were the parents of 9 chilren: Bessie, Tennie, Claude, George Washington, Howell Jr. Minnie, Jessie, Nannie, Lila. In late July of 1932, Howell Pickens Moss attended a Baptist revival where he was baptized at the age of 81.
