Ocala - Harmon Stanton Blanchard, Sr., 84, of Ocala, passed away at his home following a lengthy illness on January 15, 2009. He was born in Hastings, Florida on Feb. 15, 1924, the only child of Hazel Idell Godwin Blanchard and James Thomas Blanchard. He attended school in Suwanee County, graduating with honors in 1942. Mr. Blanchard enlisted in the Air Force and served in Europe in WWII. He had 41 years of Active and reserve service and retired as a Captain. He also had over 31 years in civil service with the VA. Mr. Blanchard fell in love with his wife of 54 years, Lonnice Peebles Blanchard, who has been his caregiver during his illness with Hospice for the past few months. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Stan Blanchard and his wife, Susie; a granddaughter, Mandy and a grandson, James. Harmon enjoyed traveling, surf fishing, reading, coin collecting, classical music, especially Carl Haas's programs. His father was an engineer during WWI, carrying soldiers to the front and bringing the wounded back. When he returned home, he was also an engineer, so Harmon developed a love for model railroading. Harmon was also quite a good carpenter and was great at whistling while he worked. He was a member of the Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church at 14100 E. Hwy 40 Silver Springs, FL 34488. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church. There will be no viewing. A graveside service with military honors for just family will be held at the Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 22nd at 3 pm.
