Catherine Eileen Sims, 85, of Pana, IL., died Monday, January 19, 2009, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2009, in First Church of the Nazarene, Pana, with the Revs. Allen Ebbler and Orville Denton, and Assistant Pastor Lila Chaplin officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Pana. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, in the First Church of the Nazarene, Pana. She was born April 21, 1923, in Pana, the daughter of Frank Z. and Della E. Neese Buckley.
Catherine was a graduate of Pana Township High School. She lived her entire life in Pana, except for the year she was with her husband, Marvin, while he was in the service. Catherine retired as a Deli Manager from Johnston's IGA, Pana, in 1987. She loved to cook, bake, and spend time with her family and friends. Her family and church were the most important things in her life. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Pana. She served as a Steward and Sunday school teacher. Catherine also served on the church board and mission board, and was a song leader for many years.
Catherine was united in marriage to Marvin L. Sims on August 2, 1943, in Pana, by Judge Guy L. Smith.
She is survived by her children: Ron Sims and wife, Brenda, Pana, IL.; Denise Beyers and husband, Steve, Oconee, IL.; Linda Goriszewski and husband, Mike, Springfield, IL.; Marcia Buckley, Bedford, IN.; 11 grandchildren: Scott Sims; Travis Sims and wife, Jodi; Tyron Sims and wife, Amber; Tiffany Ashcraft and husband, Jake; Briana Oller and husband, Tom; Lynette Bobb and husband, Brad; Andrea Beyers; Zachary Goriszewski; Catherine Goriszewski; Larry R. Hubler; and Kathy Hubler; 10 great-grandchildren: Ben, Grace, Carsen, and Samuel Sims; Madison and Chloe Ashcraft; Samantha and Zoe Oller; and Kaleigh and Ava Catherine Bobb; and sisters: Pauline Silknitter and Agnes Braswell, both of Pana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on October 24, 1998; one sister, Olive Buckley in infancy; one brother, William Frank Buckley in infancy; and four brothers: Zack, Paul, Carl and Robert Buckley.
