Ernest R. Reed, 81 of Mason, went to be with the Lord on on Friday, May 26, 2006, at his residence. He was retired as a furnace tapper for the Foote Mineral Corp. Reed was a member of the Smith-Capehart American Legion Post 140, Stewart-Johnson Veterans of Foreign War Post 9926 and the Wahama Athletic Boosters. He was a coach for many years in the Mason Youth Baseball League, a World War II Army veteran of the 9th Infantry, who invaded the beaches at Normandy. He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Hartford, son of the late James Reed and Mina (Lavender) Reed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Reed; granddaughter, Tina Chandler; grandson, Brent Reed; and brothers, Bill and Cecil Reed. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Blankenship of Mason; daughter/son-in-law, Diana (Larry) Connor of Eustis, Fla; sons/daughters-in-law, Robert (Debbie) Reed of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, David (Judy) Reed of Mason, and Charlie Reed of Mason; grandchildren, Joanna (Steve) Dangerfield, Andrea (Bruce) Bumgardner, Chessie Pyatt, Jeff Pyatt, Lisa Gray, David Reed II, Donna Reed, Chance Reed, Josh Reed and Stephen Reed; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Grimm of New Haven, Edith Wolf of Huntington; many nieces and nephews.
