Marian Cochran, of Englewood, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville.

Born in 1915 in Miami, Okla., she was a valued member of Englewood for more than 80 years. You need not look far to see her influence in this town or witness her legacy. She taught fourth grade at Englewood School for more than 47 years, served on the Englewood Homecoming Committee and was one of the persons integral in the building of the Englewood Textile Museum. She was a long-time member of Englewood United Methodist Church and was a beloved teacher to hundreds of McMinn Countians. She was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee, and was preceded in death by one brother, Henry "Bud" Cochran; one niece, Heather Melinda Cochran; and her parents, Henry Ruel and Tommie Marian Rhodes Cochran, all who resided in Englewood.

Survivors include one nephew, Bill Cochran and his wife, Joan, of Pigeon Forge; three nieces, Marian Nicole Cochran and Michelle Lea Cochran, both of Nashville, and Tracy Simpkiss of Englewood; one sister-in-law, Imogene Webb Cochran of Englewood; and several cousins.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bordwine Funeral Home.

Graveside services were 11 a.m. Monday at the Cochran's Cemetery in Englewood with the Rev. David Graybeal officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Englewood School, P.O. Box 47, Englewood, TN 37329. Memorials made on behalf of Ms. Cochran will be used for the accelerated reading program.
