Jack Allen
Blackfoot - Jack B. Allen, a Blackfoot area resident for the past three years, died Friday at the Valley Care Center in Idaho Falls. He was born Feb. 26, 1908 in Hawkins, to George D. and Louisa Adelaide (Brower) Allen. He attended schools in Chatten Flats and Hagerman.
He married Cora Laverne Jenkins Aug. 16, 1927 in Fairfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They farmed and kept dairy cows in Hagerman, where he also served as cemetery sexton for 10 years. He was active in the community, serving Shoestring School Board of Trustees and as a precinct committeeman in Tuttle.
He was chairman of the "Old Time" Section of the July 24 celebration in Hagerman for 40 years and in 1976 was honored as grand marshal of the parade. He was a member of the LDS Church, served as a bishop's counselor under three different bishops, was Young Men's president, high priest's group leader and bishop of the Hagerman Ward. He also enjoyed singing in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Blackfoot; one son, Jack L. Allen, Blackfoot; one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Barbara) Hammons, Rathdrum; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by nine brothers; one sister; one daughter Eileen Child; one son, Royal J.; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Blackfoot East Stake Center on Mt. Putnam Drive with Bishop Tom Driscoll of the LDS Sixth Ward officiating. Friends may call at Packham Mortuary all day Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Hagerman Cemetery."
