Emma Kappes, 92, of Ada, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Bridges Care Community, Ada. Emma Marie, daughter of Chris and Anna (Thomas) Sorensen, was born at home on October 8, 1916, in Mary Township, near Borup, MN. She attended country school near her home and later attended Borup High School. Emma married Joseph William Kappes on September 21, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada. They farmed near Ulen for many years, before moving to several farms in Norman County and also near Mahnomen. They moved into Ada in 1985, and lived at Valley View Manor. Joe died in 1990. Emma continued to live in the apartment before becoming a resident of Bridges Care Community in 2003. Emma enjoyed playing cards and games, crocheting, and visiting with friends and neighbors on Sundays. She was an active member of the Ada Red Hats Society. Emma is survived by two sons, Paul, in Texas, Joey (Vicki), Ada, MN, Rose Ann Kappes, Ada, MN, Lucille (Phillip) Ellingworth, Gary, MN, one sister, Betty (George) Coleman, Temple, TX, four sisters
