Lineman for L.G. & E. Killed by Power Wire
Robert J. Ray, 32, was electrocuted at 1:10 p.m. yesterday while working on a utility pole at 16th and Main. Ray, a lineman for Louisville Gas & Electric Company, accidentally touched a 440-volt wire and was thrown to the top of a transformer, according to Deputy Coroner J. Kenneth Murphy.

None of three other crew members knew how Ray happened to touch the power line, police said. The crew was repairing a traffic signal at the time.

World War II Veteran
Ray, of 4311 Bank, had been with L. G. & E. since 1948. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Iroquois Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars; Sgt Joseph DeWitt Chapter 108, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. He also was a member of Brilliant Star 1530, Order of the Eastern Star, Shawnee Masonic Lodge 832, and St. Luke Evangelical and Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Cain Ray; his mother, Mrs. Ida Ray; a son, Robert T. Ray; a daughter, Leesa Ann Ray, and a sister, Mrs. James Eimes.
The body is at Owen Funeral Home, 2611 Virginia.
