First Husband of Edna M. Nye

"A Sudden Death--Our people were surprised and sorrowful to learn of the death Monday afternoon of William WINTERMANTEL, one of our best known and most highly respected of farmers, which occurred in his hay field. He had been in the best of health, and when the Review editor was talking with him at 8 p.m. Sunday he said he felt fine. He was about 47 years of age, of strict integrity and one of the most popular men in this section, having not an enemy, while his friends were numbered by hundreds. He leaves a wife and three children besides other relatives to mourn his early death. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the farm residence, services at the cemetery being under the auspices of Santiam Lodge, I.O.O.F. of which he had long been a member. At the time of his death he was master of Ankeny Grange. His many sterling qualities will cause him to long be mourned. The bereaved family have the heart felt sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bitter sorrow." The Jefferson Review, July 6, 1917 3:2.
