Two conflicting death dates for Reubin Copeland in Confederate Widow's Pension Application filed by Julia C. Copeland. One is January 18, 1901 and the other January 15, 1902.

Reuben Copeland is believed to be the grandson of Ripley Copeland, born March 10, 1761 in Chatham County, NC, and died May 29, 1843 in Chesterfield County, NC; and wife Rachel Tucker, born 1763 in Chatham County, NC, and died November 13, 1845.
DNA matches with descendants of Reuben Copeland lead to this Revolutionary War ancestor.

He enlisted September, 1861 in Oak Level Calhoun County as a private in Company "G", 25th Alabama Infantry Regt.

NOTE: CSA information on tombstone is believed to be incorrect. The War Service Record on the stone is for another Reuben Copeland who served in Texas. The marker for Reubin Copeland at Grimes Cemetery was ordered from the VA on May 7, 1931 by his son H.B. Copeland of Piedmont, Alabama.
