JOHN C. PAYNE
John C. Payne of route 1, Graham, died this morning at 9:20 at the residence of his son William Payne, following an illness of two years, one week critical. He was the widower of Mrs. Fannie Holt Payne, who died in 1928, a native of Alamance county and the son of the late Patterson Payne, and Mrs. Sophia Loy Payne.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock from the Cedar Cliff M.P. church near Saxapahaw, with internment taking place in Cedar Cliff cemetery.
The Rev. J.R. Anderson and the Rev. J.M. Permar will officiate.
He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Nan Gilliam of Saxapahaw; Mrs. A.A. Clark of Greensboro; Mrs. Braxton C. Rogers of Burlington; four sons: John D. Payne of Graham; Henry and William G. Payne of R.F.D. Burlington; Ed C. Payne and H.R.* Payne of Asheville, N.C., 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
The body was removed from the Rich and Thompson Mortuary to the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Nan Gilliam at Saxapahaw to await the funeral hour.
*Note: Henry R. (H.R.) Payne was actually his brother, not son. H.R. was the fifth name after statement John C. had four sons.
