James M. Sanders was appointed Postmaster at Hawley, Wright Co., Oct. 26, 1893. (Hawley is 12 miles southeast of Hartville, and formerly known as Whetstone, the name given to Brown & Wilson's saw-mill on Whetstone Creek. --History of Wright Co., 1889, p.424.) It is said that the post office was in a general store that James Mattison had at the time.
