Ex-Editor Publisher Dies at 90

BELLE PLAINE, Kan. — J. Byron Cain, 90, retired editor and publisher of Belle Plaine News, died Monday.

Mr. Cain was editor and publisher of the Belle Plaine newspaper for more than 50 years. Retiring in 1947, he was the 1924 treasurer of National Editorial Association and the 1934 president of Kansas Editorial Association.

He was born Dec. 18, 1874, at Lake Forest, Ill., and lived in the Belle Plaine community for 85 years. As a civic leader in Belle Plaine, he served as city clerk in 1919 and started the Belle Plaine Alumni Association. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his widow, Frances; three sons, Emerson E., 5 Rolling Hills, Wichita, Paul B., Enid, Okla., and Edwin S., Wilmington, Calif.; a stepsister, Mrs. George W. Snelbaker, 1214 Riverside, Wichita; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
