William E. Lance, a son of James I. Lance and M. Polly Johnson, married Nancy Ann "Hallowell", a daughter of Joseph Halliwell and Catherine Coolman, on 13 Mar 1862 in Wayne County, Ohio.

The Lance family cemetery plot, consisting of four lots in Mound Hill Cemetery, two of which, were deed to William and two to his cousin John in 1903. The plot is located north of mound in the center of section, east side of West drive. William and Nancy share a single Pink granite roll monument. William Emery and Nancy Ann's daughters, Florannis (Lance) Halliwell and Lydia Ellen (Lance) Moore-Vaugh were also interred at Mound Hill. Their daughters Mary Catharine and Emma C. were laid to rest at Knupp Cemetery in Rittman, Wayne County, Ohio.

Inscription as acquired directly from monument in 2001: William E. Lance 12 May 1832 - 24 Feb 1909; Ann Halliwell 10 Jul 1836 - 13 Apr 1903. Interred adjoining to the south, is William's cousin John and his wife Rebecca.
