On November 11, 1873 Jeff married Annie in Coffeyville, Montgomery CO, KS at the home of the bride's mother. Jeff "rode a little Brown fast mare in the Old Oklahoma Land race" on April 22, 1889 and got a place of about 160 acres northwest of Yale, OK which he farmed for several years.

Jeff and Annie had nine children: Infant son born and died 9/20/1874 in MO, William Vanover b 9/15/1875, Charlie Jacob b 11/27/1878, James Robert b 3/27/1881, Martha Maudie b 12/31/1883, Beauford "Blue" Austin b 1/18/1887, Rowland Webster b 12/8/1889, Dolly Mae b 9/9/1892 m Balfour Shelton Hubbard and Angus Leroy b 2/16/1899.
