When Arlie Meek was 13 years old, his father drove his cattle to market at the Canyon City mines. After selling his cattle, George Meek had his pockets full of gold, and he was murdered on the way home on 01 Sept 1864. Following a trial in Oregon City, Henry Anderson Deadmond of Lane County was hung for the crime on 17 Feb 1865 at The Dalles, Oregon. This was the first official execution in the Oregon Territory.
Arlie Meek married Charlotte Maude "Lottie" Rhea on 25 Mar 1892 in Heppner, Morrow County, Oregon. Lottie was the daughter of Lane County pioneers, John B. Rhea and Ruby Laura (Baker) Rhea. The Meeks had three children: James Robert Meek, Walter Arlington Meek and Naomi Meek [Mrs. Frank William Albert Baker, Sr.].
